Money workshops for international students
We help International Offices and Career Services prepare international students for life and work in Germany: payslips, taxes, pensions and first savings, explained in plain language.
Questions your students ask
- “Why is my first payslip so low?”
Students start a Minijob or a Werkstudent job and don’t understand tax classes, social insurance or why money is missing.
- “What happens to my money after graduation?”
The first job offer brings gross versus net, a company pension offer and the question of how to start saving.
- “Everyone on Instagram says buy ETFs”
Students hear about investing from influencers and need neutral basics: what it is, what it costs and the risks.
Workshop modules
- Money in Germany: your first weeks
For welcome weeks. Bank account, budget for the first months, health insurance basics and how to spot common money scams.
- Student jobs without surprises
Minijob or Werkstudent job, the German payslip, tax ID, tax classes and why a tax return can pay off.
- From graduation to first job
For career services. Reading a job offer and the first payslip, gross and net, social insurance and the company pension (bAV).
- Saving and investing basics
An emergency fund, how ETFs and fund costs work, and the risks. Neutral education, no product recommendations.
Formats
- Welcome-week talk
45 to 60 minutes for new international students, on campus or online.
- Workshop series
Two to four interactive sessions of about 90 minutes inside your career or integration programme.
- Online sessions for several campuses
One live session that students from all your locations can join, with time for questions.
- Materials and follow-up
Checklists, slides and our free calculators, plus participant numbers and a short feedback summary for your project report.
Fits funded programmes. Many universities support international students through DAAD programmes such as FIT (Förderung internationaler Talente zur Integration in Studium und Arbeitsmarkt, part of the Campus-Initiative Internationale Fachkräfte), Profi plus or STIBET. Our workshops focus on study success and the step into the German labour market, so they can be one module of such a project. Whether a session can be funded depends on your project. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the DAAD.
